Culture, Architecture, and Design
Looking through the Lens of Environment-Behavior Studies
I'm deeply intrigued by the connections between people and the built environment. Looking through the lens of environment-behavior studies, the mechanisms that link people and the built environment explain the interactions between people and architecture.
People-Environment Interaction is a Two-way Interaction
I’m fascinated by different cultures. People-environment interaction is a two-way interaction, that environmental perception is impacted by culture, and culture also shapes the built environment. How people perceive the environment is influenced by their cultural background. I have traveled extensively to different countries and visited many famous buildings and architectural masterpieces. I have always been amazed by the architects' brilliant design ideas, rich historical context, and revolutionary construction methods and technology. My astonishment at culture's power to shape the world and the built environment never ceases to permeate when I stand in front of these master architectures or in the hallowed spaces of these captivating buildings, pondering, pausing, and experiencing.
Cultural Reflections in Architecture and the Built Environment
Architecture as a physical expression of ideas simultaneously reflects and influences society's culture. Through my work in environment-behavior studies, I'm constantly fascinated by the way that culture has shaped the built environment and how architecture reflects and influences society's culture.
Meaning of Architecture and the Built Environment
Architecture and the built environment as physical forms convey meanings to people. As an environment-behavior studies scholar, I'm amazed by how architectural spaces, forms, orders, motifs, and ornaments transmit and reflect cultural meanings to people and how cultures have shaped design creations.
Scholarship of Culture, Architecture and Design
From Environment-Behavior Studies Perspective
I have published and presented my scholarship on culture, architecture, and design. As a speaker at international conferences, I discussed how cross-cultural comparison of architecture was incorporated into my teaching. Sharing my scholarship, my perspective on EB studies, and my travel experiences has been an absolute pleasure.
